Mainland Group Manager Suspected of Corruption Accepting German Police Investigation

On August 4, 2011, a spokesperson for the Frankfurt Prosecutor's Office stated that a manager of the automotive component manufacturer Continental AG (Continental Group) was under investigation by the German police for alleged corruption.

A spokesperson for the Office of the Prosecutor, Doris Moeller-Scheu, said on the phone: “The manager, 60 years old, was born in Frankfurt and is a representative of the Continental Group in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He negotiated and signed the replacement of spare parts and equipment. During the contract, the manager was accused of receiving a bribe of at least 70,000 euros (US$100,000). He was detained by the police in April and the investigation will take at least a few months because we need the assistance of foreign police.”

A spokesman for the Continental Group, Eva Appold, said: "We have already passed the Swiss bank ditch because we need to understand his account with the bank. In addition, we have also learned about the situation in other countries, such as the authorities of Russia and the Czech Republic. However, the spokesman refused to comment on the allegation.

German prosecutors will not publish a list of all the persons investigated.
