At the Hanover Motor Show this year, the new FH model of "Tyrant Gold" brought by Volvo will be equipped with the I-SHIFT dual clutch transmission except for its glittering appearance.
According to reports, dual-clutch transmissions are generally used in sports cars, which can achieve automatic shifting without losing speed nor losing torque. Volvo claims that they are the first manufacturers in the world to use dual-clutch transmissions for heavy-duty trucks.
“For heavy-duty trucks, the application of dual-clutch is a major advancement, which can make the driving operation more smooth and easy. The Volvo Euro 6D13 engine version of the FH will be fitted with an I-SHIFT dual clutch transmission with output power of 460, 500 and 540 hp respectively. The car was launched in September this year.
Eaton launches new dual clutch gearbox

The new 7-speed transmission features a dual-clutch design and electronic shifting to provide optimum fuel efficiency and smooth continuous torque output depending on grade, vehicle weight, and throttle input during various shift conditions.
Eaton claims that the fuel efficiency of vehicles equipped with the dual clutch transmission is 8-10% higher than that of a vehicle with the same torque converter.
John Beering, Eaton’s senior vice president and general manager of the Commercial Vehicles Transmission Business Unit, said: “Small businesses rely on 6th and 7th tier trucks to deliver and perform arduous tasks every day. Eaton said that the transmission uses dual-clutch technology, which is more efficient in starting and accelerating.
