Belarus was originally a Soviet republic and it was planned to be a heavy-duty truck production base. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, although Belarus can still manufacture advanced trucks, locomotives, trucks and tractors, it is difficult to create a car suitable for use by the public. Most of the cars on the streets of Belarus are from Germany, Japan, or Russia.

In 2013, under the “One Belt and One Road” initiative, Geely (Belarus) Automobile Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Zhejiang Geely Holding Group and Belarus, entered the “fast track” of development and took less than 30 months. A full-scale assembly plant was set up on the outskirts of Borisov City, integrating painting, welding, assembly and other processes.

The plant adopts the most advanced production and management technology in China, with an annual production capacity of 60,000 units. The level of Belarusian localization of its products can reach 50% by 2018.

On the same day, the first Belarusian GeelyAtlas (Bo Yue) car was also officially rolled out. Lukashenko took a new car and said that he plans to gradually use the brand's vehicles to replace imported official vehicles in the country.
