As early as 2000, Shanxi Coal Chemical Institute proposed a new method for direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from urea and methanol, and has applied for four national invention patents and three international invention patents. The technology used in this technology is urea and methanol, which can greatly reduce the production cost of dimethyl carbonate. At the same time, this synthetic route is basically free from “three wastes†and is a green synthetic route. The successful development of this technology will help promote the diversification of China's urea industry products and increase the economics of the synthetic ammonia and synthetic urea industries.
